Description
The TrueMajority.org "IranMobile", a Dr. Strangelovian thermonuclear missle/bomb that rises for launch 20 feet in the air with George W. Bush astride, is coming to Charlottesville, Va., as part of the NotAnotherWar.org campaign to stop an impending war on Iran. Lights, smoke, music, audio are part of the presentation. Citizen activists will provide written materials and encourage discussion of the U.S. policy of aggressive war that was born 5 years ago this week. Please come out and join us!
The American public elected a Congress to end one war in 2006, and -- far from ending it -- our government is threatening to launch another war, this time against Iran. The current issue of U.S. News and World Report includes an article with the headline "Six Signs the U.S. May Be Headed for War in Iran." The illegal occupation of Iraq is entering its sixth year.
More information about the IranMobile is available at http://notanotherwar.org
More about the threat of an attack on Iran is available at http://dontattackiran.org

Changing the World Through Community Organizing
Fri. March 28th, 6:00 PM
Three authors discuss various aspects of community organizing --why organizers do what they do, the "nuts and bolts" of how they do it, and how a retreat center has been effective in renewing their energy to work to change the world.
Featuring:
Michael Jacoby Brown, author of Building Powerful Community Organizations: A Personal Guide to Creating Groups That Can Solve Problems and Change the World, has worked as a community organizer, trainer, and consultant for numerous community, labor, religious, government, and health organizations.
Kristin Layng Szakos (with co-author Joe Szakos) has written We Make Change: Community Organizers Talk About What They Do--and Why. She is a freelance writer and editor and the former director of the Appalachian Reader, a journal about community organizing.
Susan Wells, author of Changing Course: Windcall and the Art of Renewal, has been active in social jusitice movements since 1950, including as trustee of the Abelard Foundation. In 1989 she founded Windcall to address burnout among social change leaders.
Hosted by Virginia Organizing Project, Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, UVa Pride, Public Housing Association of Residents (PHAR), Interfaith Gay Straight Alliance, Legal Aid Justice Center, Blue Ridge Radio Project, The People United, Charlottesville Albemarle NAACP, The Bridge, and Gay Straight Alliance of the TJMC-UU.

Panel Discussion:
“Stop Criminalization of Immigrants in Virginia”
“Once you hear the stories and get to know Virginia's immigrants personally, it's hard to ignore the clear injustices going on throughout Virginia. What makes our work challenging is the large, silent majority who need to start speaking up to defend principles of fairness and basic dignity for Virginians, including Virginia's immigrants.” - Tim Freilich of the Charlottesville based Legal Aid Justice Center's immigrant advocacy program, The Daily Progress, 1/20/08.
The CCPJ Salon is a gathering of people with the intention to engage in dialogue on peace and justice issues, to provide a space for interpersonal and group communication, and to further both conversation and action.

Description
Live Arts presents Lysistrata on February 16, with proceeds benefiting the Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice. This ancient play presents everything you need to know about how men live and die by the sword. Ribald and profound, these words have gained meaning with each of the 2500 years that have passed since they were written. And the women they empower have become more vital with every redundant bout of armed foolishness undertaken by the men for whom they must care. After the play, the director and actors will participate in a discussion with the audience.
Tickets for this benefit performance of Lysistrata will be available at New Dominion Bookstore, Quest Books, and Greenberry's, as of January 25. All tickets are $20, with general admission. No reserved seating.
